Your Guide To Invisalign
What Is The Treatment Process?
A system of clear aligners called Invisalign is used to straighten teeth. A consultation with our team can help you determine whether Invisalign is the best course of action for you at the outset of the treatment process.
Once it is decided that Invisalign is the best course of action, they will take photos, x-rays, and digital impressions of your teeth. These images will be used to create a digital model of your mouth, which will be used to design your custom sets of aligners.
After creating your treatment plan, you will receive a set of clear aligners that you must wear for 20 to 22 hours per day. Before switching to the next aligner in the sequence, you must wear each one for approximately one to two weeks, depending on your orthodontist’s recommendation. Depending on several factors, treatment lasts about 6 to 18 months. You will need to wear a retainer once treatment is finished to ensure your teeth stay in their new position.
How Do I Take Care Of My Aligners?
The aligners are removable, so you can take them out to eat, brush, and floss. It is essential to clean both your teeth and the aligners thoroughly before putting them back in your mouth. Here are some tips for taking care of your Invisalign aligners:
- Rinse the aligners in lukewarm water before putting them back in your mouth.
- Brush the aligners lightly with a toothbrush with a soft bristle. Brush every surface, especially the inside coverings that come in contact with your teeth.
- Avoid hot water, which can warp the aligners.
- Store the aligners in the case provided when you are not wearing them.
If you don’t take care of your aligners, plaque and germs can collect on them, leading to plaque buildup and discoloring.

What Happens When I’m Done With Treatment?
The day has come! Your braces have been removed, revealing a gorgeous, straight smile! Your orthodontic experience isn’t quite over, though. To prevent or restrict any changes in tooth position, retainers are required. After treatment, they are used to retain teeth in the proper place while the gums, bones, and muscles adapt to the new position of your teeth. A few options are available through David McInnis Orthodontics, traditional removable, aligner style, and fixed retainers. At a later appointment, these can be discussed in more depth, along with what is best for your teeth and overall lifestyle.
